June 11th -- Oldsmar Tap House will be tapping a 2 month old firkin of Cigar City Big Sound Scotch Ale, the one and only of its kind this year. Gino, the punk rock bagpiper who inspired the Big Sound name will be on hand playing bagpipes. You may be asking yourself, what the hell is a firkin and why should I care? Basically, it's a cask that holds 9 gallons of beer that has been refermented inside the container from which it's served and uses gravity or a hand pump as a draw system instead of additional nitrogen or carbon dioxide. It's thoroughly impossible to call yourself a beer geek if you haven't experienced cask ale. Here's a video of Steve from Boundary Bay Brewery giving the lowdown on firkin joy.
Fast forward a week for more Cigar City goodness.
