Never mind Whisker Wars — all hail to the 'stache!

From the Chevron to the Fu Manchu, mustaches are no longer relegated to creeps, throwbacks and porn stars.

Vote for your favorite mustachioed hero — and tell the world Tampa Bay loves some hair over its upper lip.

The American Mustache Institute (yes, there is such a thing) opened nominations for the Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year.

The award recognizes the person who has best represented or contributed to the "Mustached American community" during the past year.

Nominees for 2011 will likely include Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Keidis, green blogger Joel Makower, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher John Axford, astronaut Mark Kelly as well as "regular Joes with compelling stories."

Nominations are being taken on the AMI site, and voting for finalists will being Oct. 10.

Also, on Sept. 29, AMI will announce the findings of our two year "America's Most Mustache-Friendly City."
