Gasparilla Music Festival, arts fun in St. Pete and Bradenton.


The pirates may be shipping off this afternoon, but music fans are invading downtown for the Gasparilla Music Festival.

A few blocks away, the Ye Mystic Krewe Of Gasparilla Outward Bound Voyage will depart from Channelside Bay Plaza following an afternoon of live entertainment and “piratical” fun. The festivities begin at noon with live music, food and drinks. Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla Pirates will arrive at 4:30 p.m. for some revelry before the Captain exchanges final words with Mayor Bob Buckhorn and leads his Krewe on board their ship the “Jose Gasparilla,” which will push off from Channelside at 6:30 p.m. with one final cannon salute launched toward downtown Tampa.

Nude Nite
continues in Ybor City. The largest touring juried art show in North America exhibits nude works of all media with pop-up gallery shows and figurative works. Entertainment includes burlesque, body painting including the stars of "Naked Vegas" Nix Herrera and Heather Aguilera, contortionists, aerialists and live installations. In St. Pete, the Morean Arts Center and Dalí Museum are teaming up again to give visitors the chance to create their own Warhol-style self portrait. For Do-It-Yourself Warhol Portraits, staff will take portrait photos and visitors will then paint their photographs to mimic the silkscreen style used by the great Andy Warhol. The event is in celebration of the Dalí’ Museums exhibit, Warhol: Art. Fame. Mortality, 3 p.m. $15 per portrait. 719 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Stick around for new storytellers exhibitions at the Morean Arts Center, in tandem with downtown St. Pete's Second Saturday Art Walk and Warehouse Arts District Trolley Tour.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies continue their preseason tour, taking on the University of Tampa at Pepin Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 pm. General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for kids ages 17 and younger.The event coincides with the 10th annual Fitz Festival, celebrating Tom Fitzgerald, who after playing with the Rowdies, started his coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of Tampa under legendary coach Jay Miller. Fitzgerald went on to win the Division 2 NCAA Championship in 1994 & also won a Division 1 National Championship as a head coach with UCLA. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at University of Tampa athletic department (Bob Martinez Sports Center, across the street from Pepin Stadium) or when the gates open at 6:30 p.m.


If you live on the southern end of Tampa Bay and aren't doing the Tampa fests, enjoy some music and arts in the outdoors at Bradenton's ArtSlam, featuring dozens of artists, musicians, performers, installation art, and interactive art experiences.
