This week's comedy line-up features a nice mix of funny ladies, local headliners and skilled writers. Just remember that there's one less day to see live comedy this weekend: Due to the Easter holiday, there are no comedy club shows scheduled for Sunday.
Iliza Shlesinger at Tampa Improv. Shlesinger, a winner of Last Comic Standing, has a strong stage presence. She's not aggressive, but clearly confident in her material. Expect frank discussions about dating and relationships (she hosted a dating game show, after all) and whatever else comes to mind. Showtimes are Thursday at 8 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. 1600 E. Eighth Ave., Tampa. Info: improvtampa.com or 813-864-4000.
Michael Che at Side Splitters. Che has only been doing comedy for a few years, but don't mistake the quick-wittted performer for a novice. He's a writer for Saturday Night Live and performs his own material with a casual stage presence that's normally reserved for more veteran comedians. Showtimes are Thursday at 8:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. and Saturday at 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. 12938 N. Dale Mabry, Tampa. Info: sidesplitterscomedy.com or 813-960-1197.
Ken Miller at Snappers Grill & Comedy Club. Miller is the most recent winner of the Florida's Funniest Comedian contest. He uses his considerable stage skills to present a direct, honest, and humorous look at fatherhood and other observations. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. 36657 U.S. 19 N., Palm Harbor. Info: snappersgrill.com or 727-938-2027.
Danny Bevins at Coconuts. Sometimes Bevins pokes fun at politicians. Sometimes it's people he runs into at a restaurant. But no matter the target, he brings a knowing wit and focused perspective in sharing his frustrations, and translates them into laughs from the audience. Showtimes are Wednesday-Saturday at 9:30 p.m. 6200 Gulf Blvd. at the Beachcomber Resort, St. Pete Beach. Info: coconutscomedyclubs.com or 727-360-5653.
Mike Rivera at Jacks Joint. Rivera earned the title of "America's Funniest Teacher" from ABC's The View last year, but the longtime headliner has been making audiences laugh for decades. He uses those teaching skills in his act, guiding the audience through funny premises and clever wordplay. Showtime is Saturday at 8:30 p.m. 2950 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., Clearwater. Info: tampabaycomedy.com or 727-741-8014.
