We all had that funny teacher back in school who made us laugh and made their class more fun than any other. But they weren't actual comedians. You wouldn't expect them to get up on stage and entertain everyone for a solid 45 minutes with funny jokes.

Unless your teacher was Mike Rivera, of course.

Rivera, named Funniest Teacher by ABC's The View, is a working stand-up comedy headliner — and a teacher. He probably doesn't get to use much of his stand-up routine in school, but his teaching style definitely comes out on stage. From his "teachable moments" that would make the school board blush, to his casual direction of the audience as a class, Rivera showcases his comedy in a way you probably haven't seen before
.
Wednesday night he'll headline the "Teacher's Lounge" show at Tampa Improv, and his 25+ years of comedy experience will be on full display. Joining Rivera is Trish Keating, another stand-up comedian/teacher. If you wondered what your teachers would say if they were given a microphone and license to say whatever they wanted, this is the show for you.

Showtime is tonight at 8 p.m. 1600 E. Eighth Ave., Tampa. Info: improvtampa.com or 813-864-4000.
