Well what about the rest of us Gaga? What about the rest of us who aren't super-fans, but supported you at your early G. Bar performances in Ybor before you graduated to The Ritz and then the St. Pete Times Forum? Sure, we're not "Little Monsters," but you didn't have to do what you did to us last night.
If you haven't seen/heard, then here's a quick recap: Lady Gaga's original performance at the Doritos Stage at SXSW was nixed by Austin Police amid crowd safety concerns, but organizers found a new place for the spectacle (Stubb's BBQ) where only the most devoted Monsters would get a chance to see their queen make her SXSW debut.
Well, better them than us, because (as seen on the Fuse TV stream from last last), shit got really weird when Gaga — whose real name is Stefani Germonatta — launched into a performance of "Swine" from her latest head-scratcher of an album, Artpop. The song itself is a synth-ed out ode to the disgusting nature of humans, but the performance upped the ante when one of Gaga's backup dancers ingested green liquid before gagging herself and dripping the bile back onto Gaga's chest. Gag.
At the end of the day, all is fair in love and performance art, but what's kind of a shame is the way the stunt steals away all the attention that deservedly belongs on any one of the nameless bands busting their asses and spending their last few dollars on gas so they can play a dozen shows in three days hoping to catch a break.
Have a look at the video below, then let us know what you think about the behemoth that SXSW has become is the last half-decade in the comments.
