Lady Gaga performs in human vomit at SXSW. What is the world coming to?

The scene-stealing icon stole focus at music's biggest conference with a bit of body horror.

"I love my fans so much," Lady Gaga cooed after performing "Swine" at music uber-conference SXSW last night, "because they always let me be myself — and they don't care what anybody says." (via CoS)

Well what about the rest of us Gaga? What about the rest of us who aren't super-fans, but supported you at your early G. Bar performances in Ybor before you graduated to The Ritz and then the St. Pete Times Forum? Sure, we're not "Little Monsters," but you didn't have to do what you did to us last night.

If you haven't seen/heard, then here's a quick recap: Lady Gaga's original performance at the Doritos Stage at SXSW was nixed by Austin Police amid crowd safety concerns, but organizers found a new place for the spectacle (Stubb's BBQ) where only the most devoted Monsters would get a chance to see their queen make her SXSW debut.

Well, better them than us, because (as seen on the Fuse TV stream from last last), shit got really weird when Gaga — whose real name is Stefani Germonatta — launched into a performance of "Swine" from her latest head-scratcher of an album, Artpop. The song itself is a synth-ed out ode to the disgusting nature of humans, but the performance upped the ante when one of Gaga's backup dancers ingested green liquid before gagging herself and dripping the bile back onto Gaga's chest. Gag.

At the end of the day, all is fair in love and performance art, but what's kind of a shame is the way the stunt steals away all the attention that deservedly belongs on any one of the nameless bands busting their asses and spending their last few dollars on gas so they can play a dozen shows in three days hoping to catch a break.

Have a look at the video below, then let us know what you think about the behemoth that SXSW has become is the last half-decade in the comments.

Defiantly not a trend setter, She's a G.G.Allen-come-lately...

Well, the cartoony fluorescent green liquid the dancer regurgitated made it seem more benign and cartoonish, but maybe I've been desensitized to this sort of thing. I was more taken with Ms. Gaga's badass vocal and performance. Grossness aside, don't dismiss her outright. Male performers have done worse with less backlash.

Say what you will about Kiss, but Gene Simmons never vomited blood ON Paul Stanley. At least not on stage.

You obviously aren't aware of the message behind Swine. It's not only about the disgusting nature of humans but addresses eating disorders, which Gaga has never made any secret that she suffers from. It's meant to shock and get people taking so paws up for achieving this Lady G!

She might have had talent in the past but she has turned into a sensation seeking hack. How can you smoke weed and have an eating disorder? Oh, yeah, the vomiting! What a waste.

I get what she is doing. Some people will see it as art most will see it as gross. Personally i would rather make that the last bit so i could go shower it off. Then again i dont think id let someone barf all over me to make a point.
