New York Times lists St. Petersburg as top place to visit worldwide

Friday, the New York Times released a list of the world's top 52 places to go in 2014.

Cape Town, the Arctic Circle, and Namibia are on the list, along with good ole' St. Petersburg, Fla.

Clocking in at number 49, St. Petersburg is "reinventing a Florida city's reputation."

The write-up is featured with a photo from the Hollander Hotel's Tap Room (including the elk).

"Once mocked for its thousands of green benches dotted with senior citizens, St. Petersburg is anything but stationary," the Times' Diane Daniel writes. "With a redeveloped waterfront, a stunning Dali Museum, and sophisticated restaurants in place, the downtown energy is now heading up historic Central Avenue, thanks in part to the craft beer scene. Among the many recent arrivals, artsy Cycle Brewing features Fixie and Endo ales, while Green Bench Brewing Co., the name a nod to those erstwhile icons, invites winter escapees to its sunny taproom and beer garden. Refuel at the ambitious Rococo Steak, set in a renovated 1920s YWCA, then hit the Tap Room of the reinvented Hollander Hotel. "

Lucky for us, we already knew all about the loveliness listed above. Here's to global shout-outs and our neighborhood businesses getting some much deserved attention.
