It's the end of an era.
After hundreds waited hours Saturday for a bottle of the coveted Hunahpu Imperial Stout, many leaving empty-handed, Cigar City Brewing is ending the Hunahpu Day Release.
The Best of the Bay award-winning brewery will offer the brew through distribution next year.
James Beard Award nominee and Cigar City Founder, Joey Redner gave this statement to TheFullPint.com on Monday:
"I have always tried with these releases to balance fairness with the reality that some people will always try to get around your best efforts at fairness because they personally deserve more. This year they got WAY around my pitiful efforts.
"I am acknowledging defeat. That was the last Hunahpu Day. The beer will go distribution next year and hopefully spread out among many accounts it will get to consumers more fairly.
"To those that got shut out next year we will be working on another batch."
In an effort to make amends for Saturday's events, Cigar City offered free beer in its taproom, full refunds for Hunahpu Day attendees and has promised to produce another batch of Hunahpu.
