was one of the arguments really "it just is not st pete enough"? ...Seriously guys?
BIG's project should've won hands down.
It's iconic and provides air conditioned space for amenities as well as outdoor events. So much of the construction/maintenance cost of the lens would go to that ridiculous jagged crown, which provides nothing more than a moment of shade at the end of the long hot walk. Strip away this ornamental aluminum solar reflector and you are left with a long, hot sidewalk. I'm in my early 30's and I can't imagine wanting to walk out there on a hot Florida day to only enjoy the view and walk back, so what about seniors or people with young children. If the lens gets built I hope they provide heatstroke stations.
"The Canopy will be a lightning magnet"
Seriously? Every building in Tampa Bay is a lightning magnet, including the existing pier structure.
