Hay Fever

When: Jan. 9-Feb. 3 2013

It's always entertaining when the elite behaves in a provincial manner — and from Hyde Park, Tampa, to Hyde Park, England — unfamiliar people situations, tend to bring out the lowliest behavior in almost everyone. Noel Coward, like Oscar Wilde, was an expert at highlighting such moments, and director David M. Jenkins says he chose Coward's Hay Fever because it's funnier than Private Lives and more spirited than Blithe Spirit. "This is a play, like Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, that transforms triviality into comic perfection. And if Coward lacks Wilde’s high epigrammatic style, his clipped, clenched language has proved more influential," says Charles Spencer of The Telegraph. The comic masterpiece invites us to a house gathering beset by the unconventional, eccentric Bliss family. Hay Fever stars Caitlin McDonald Eason (Sorel Bliss), Spencer Meyers (Simon Bliss), Dana Kovar (Clara), Caroline Jett (Judith Bliss), Owen Robertson (David Bliss), Chris Jackson (Sandy Tyrell), Amy Gray (Myra Arundel), Michael C. McGreevy (Richard Greatham) and Katie Castonguay (Jackie Coryton). Designs by Jenkins (sound), Brian Smallheer (set and lights) and Katrina Stevenson (costumes).
